The only luxury Melbourne hotel on the New York end of
Collins Street, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is located conveniently
in the banking and financial district of the Melbourne CBD.
One of Melbourne's best hotels, InterContinental
Melbourne The Rialto is central to all that the city has to offer, including
the Yarra River and parklands.
The bustling New York end of Collins Street was once
shadowed by the imposing Venetian Gothic palazzo style architecture of the
Rialto building and Winfield buildings, both built in the boom period of
Melbourne’s gold rush when Melbourne was the richest city in the world.
The resurrection of these buildings occurred almost a
hundred years later when the two buildings were converted into a luxury hotel.
A soaring nine-storey glass atrium was built to join the two buildings and the
original bluestone cobbled laneway, which once echoed with the clatter of horse
hooves now houses Alluvial
Restaurant and Bluestone Wine Lounge. This
original bluestone laneway is still visible in the void between the exterior
wall of the Rialto wing of the historic Melbourne hotel and the Rialto Towers forecourt, near Merchant Restaurant.
This five star Melbourne hotel was acquired by InterContinental Hotels and Resorts and in December 2008 after a $60
million renovation and refurbishment reopened under the direction of the
renowned Joseph Pang.
InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto opened its doors, bringing the world’s
finest hotel and resorts brand to one of Australia’s most vibrant cities.
InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has since
developed a loyal following among stylish and discerning travellers who
appreciate the modern and luxurious five star hotel experience, and the
authentic and enriching service provided by its award winning team.
